Critics Consensus

The Guilty is another Americanized remake overshadowed by the original, but its premise is still sturdy enough to support a tense, well-acted thriller.

Audience Says

Jake Gyllenhaal is great -- but not great enough to carry The Guilty through its frustratingly static story.

Yet in humanizing him the film also reduces an institutional failing into an individual one. The adaption itself does however fail to make a convincing argument for its existence. Rated: 3/5 Oct 8, 2021 Full Review The Guilty (2021) | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Hector A. Thomas S I couldn't understand much of the dialog so I did jot know what was going on with any precision. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/25/21 Full Review ツ b I started watching this movie from its synopsis only, looking for something on netflix that would immediately draw my attention within the first 30mins, and boy did this film do just that. there are so many hidden gems and details that just make this movie so enticing. I have never heard of the danish version until reading reviews after watching, and I must say it seems that people who watch the guilty with no prior knowledge of it's remake (like me) will appreciate and enjoy the show allot more. only 'slight' downside was that I could guess the plot twist which didn't really make it as surprising as I would've hoped, however the film compensates for that with how it's grips your attention and every fibre on my body was focused on the screen 😂. Really good watch if you want something quick but enticing. this movie will definitely not be leaving my mind for a couple weeks. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/22/24 Full Review Huub B Very thrilling story which took me by surprise cause of it only taking place in the office. Great acting but lacked a bit of backstory to the main character. Was not expecting the twist which was a great shocker. Very thrilling thriller Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/18/24 Full Review Iamwhoi M This isn't a horrible movie; but you'll probably figure out the "twist" long before it's revealed. It's supposed to be an edge of your seat kind of flick, I guess; but it fails. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/30/24 Full Review Roksana W The movie seems unfinished... There is suspense and drama, but there isn't a back story that explains what's happening at the present with Joe, or what's happening with Emily. There was definitely some room for background story of the main characters. Jake's performance is great, you can see he really tried to add some depth to his character. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/30/24 Full Review Jeffrey P Watching a guy talk on the phone for ninety minutes isn’t that interesting. Mildly suspenseful at times, somewhat shocking at others, but not an interesting watch. Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/27/24 Full Review Read all reviews
